Greenley Goal No. 2

Sean channeling his inner Rocky Balboa by the columns of the National Arboretum

As noted in a previous post - Sean and I want  set the goal to run a half marathon before our first anniversary. This is a goal I was only half excited about. To be frank - I have never loved running. I grew up in a city that has an altitude of 6,000 feet. The air was thin and made running in gym class even LESS fun. To be even more frank I think I hate running because I may have possibly been the slowest runner in my gym class. On top of everything else I am not very competitive by nature and the idea of RUNNING a RACE seems like needless torture.

So, obviously I was ok with this new years resolution slipping our memories. I think I set the goal  in the dead of winter when I was getting cabin fever and was feeling the need to move my body. Now that the bite of winter is lifting and I got my bike back on Wednesday(yippie!!), I don't feel that need as much.

To my husband's credit - he is REALLY good at keeping his New Years Resolutions. He puts a lot of thought into them and only will make three a year and then he actually keeps them! (I found a good one).

With that in mind, I should not have been surprised when he confessed that he kinda zoned out the last hour of church last Sunday because he was looking up 5ks that we could run in May. This would help us get ready for a half marathon. So last Monday night, we did it - WE SIGNED UP FOR A 5k! Ha ha - I am sure all of you runners out there are laughing at how simple a measly 3 mile race is… but this is something that is WAY out of my comfort zone.

We went on our first run last Monday night and it went way better than I thought. Sean is a great person to do this with. He is really supportive and doesn't turn it into a competition. I may actually be starting to feel a bit of excitement about this…..! We can do it! (If we don't... feel free to publicly shame us).
In our running gear for our Saturday run

Sean had the lovely idea of going to the National Arboretum for Saturday's run.
It is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors!
